First, let me start off by saying I LOVE The Container Store! Really. I could browse for hours, and I really wish there was one in Eastern North Carolina. But before you plan your trip to The Container Store, you must do this one thing!
You must declutter! Don’t close the tab! Hear me out!
I know we are all mesmerized by beautifully organized spaces on Pinterest. The photos show coordinated baskets and rainbow shelves, and we think that if we can just put our stuff in beautiful baskets and shuffle things around, then our homes will look beautiful too! (If I just called you out, don’t worry, that was me too a few years ago.)
And you know what? You can have a beautifully organized home, but you have to purge first.
Here Are 2 Huge Reasons Why You Must Declutter Before You Buy Any Organizing Products
1. You will save time
How many times have you wandered down an aisle at Target or TJ Maxx and tried to think of how you can use beautifully woven baskets or bins? You buy a few, and then get home only to realize they don’t really do what you need them to do. If you don’t go through your items first, you won’t really even know what you have, so you don’t know what to buy.
2. You will save money
You may realize you don’t need storage containers at all! After you declutter your belongings, you may see that you don’t need the items or the storage containers at all! You could use that space for something else entirely! It gives me and my clients a little high when we free up a kitchen drawer or a new space in the pantry. A world of opportunities opens up!
All too often, I see clients organizing stuff they don’t even want or use! In fact, most of my one-on-one clients are actually organized people, but they skipped the decluttering step, so they still felt overwhelmed with their stuff, even though it was corralled into bins!
Here is a photo from a real client. This is seriously all the organizing stuff she no longer needed after we decluttered!
Make it game! See how many bins and baskets you can actually free up by decluttering, and then have fun using them in different places in your home!
