Have you ever thought about what your ideal day would look like? We are often so busy doing tasks that we don’t think about what we are doing and how we want to be spending our time. You may feel like you have lost control of your time and are running on the hamster wheel. That feeling will not get better without being intentional with your time.
In the membership, Your Path to Simplified, we are going through exercises to design our ideal day. “Creating Daily Routines” was the top topic our Founding Members wanted to learn about when they completed the survey upon joining! It’s so important, in fact, that we dedicated an entire month to it!
Maybe you are still on the fence.
Here are 5 reasons why you will benefit from designing your ideal day.
1. Designing your ideal day will encourage healthy habits.
When was the last time you intentionally created a routine that included an unhealthy habit? It probably hasn’t happened! When we are intentional about our time by creating routines, we are naturally going to incorporate habits that enhance our health. Maybe you want to shop at the Farmer’s Market regularly, or maybe you want to spend more time outdoors. A fail-safe way to make sure that happens is to incorporate those things into your routines regularly.
2. Designing your ideal day will save your brain power!
If you’ve followed me for long, you may have noticed that my main reason for being organized is to save my brain power! I want to make as few decisions as possible. By having a routine, I am able to make a decision once, and then follow that routine. I then have brain power for other things, and I’m less exhausted at the end of the day.
3. Designing your ideal day will reduce stress and anxiety.
For me, this goes back to #2 a little bit. When I do not have to put so much thought into each activity or task (saving that brain power!), then I have a much greater sense of calm. I’m not wondering what is next, looking for things that I need, or instructing my kids on a task that we do regularly. Everyone knows what to except depending on the day, and for me, this is a good thing.
4. Designing your ideal day will ensure that you are including time for things that you love.
Let’s say you have about 30 minutes between activities. What are you going to do? I don’t know about you, but when I’m not being intentional about my time, I will scroll Instagram or do a relatively meaningless chore. When we design our ideal day, you will know how you want to spend free time. You will have lists of things that you can do when you find a sliver of time that will feed your soul rather than just fill the time.
5. Designing your idea day will give you white space to do whatever you want to do.
Designing your ideal day is not about filling every moment. It is about being intentional with how you spend your time, which could lead to spontaneous adventures or lazy afternoons in the hammock. The point is that you control what is on your calendar and you do not let endless things slip in that will dictate what you do.
