Pantry Wall Refresh!

August 19, 2020

< back to blog home

Does anyone else treat the time around late August and early September as the start of a New Year?

Maybe it's my lasting love for school supplies or my need for crisp fall air after a hot, sticky summer, but I am more energized and refreshed this time of year than in January!

I love getting organized at the start of the school year.  There is so much excitement and hope for what is to come.  I want to make sure our home works for us, and doesn't create work for us.

Reminder:
We get organized so we can shift our time, energy, & resources to the things that really matter.

It's fun to plan functional spaces that are also beautiful and inspiring. This time of year, no space is spared a critical eye.  We moved into a new house on March 4th, and my favorite project so far is the pantry wall.

Pantry After

I wanted it to be beautiful and fell in love with this paper from Spoonflower (a Durham, NC company!).  It proved to be a little challenging to hang, but the bulletin board from Pottery Barn covered up the really bad places!  oops!

The bulletin board will be perfect for schedules, announcements, and it will be a mini revolving art gallery when school art starts flowing!

Lunch Bag Peg

I wanted something minimalistic looking, and these pegs I found on Etsy are perfect. Once the boys empty their lunch bags, they'll hang them on the pegs ready for the next day.

Last, but not least, we use cloth napkins as much as possible.  We started it a few years ago, and the kids love it.  They feel very fancy, and we get to save a tree too.  I labeled our safety pins with our names, so we can keep track of them until they need to be washed.

Cloth Napkins

There are still a few things I want to do in the pantry itself, but I'm calling this wall DONE!  I hope it serves us well in the coming weeks.  If not, it will be fun to see what needs tweaking (or if the kids need better training)!

For those of you with kids, what are some things you are doing to get your house ready refreshed for a new school year and new routines?   For everyone, does this time of year feel more like a new year than January to you too?

Thanks for reading!
